This is the painting I made for my mom for her birthday and Mother’s day this year and she absolutely loved it. As my painting professor says, the “I Love You” presents always end up being your best work and the pieces you don’t want to give but like you have to. Anyhow, my mom asked for a space goddess with really long and luscious hair. Then she told me to run wild with that. So here this is. My mom is a Taurus so that’s why I put the fabulous bull there. The woman, I thought, was like the human manifestation of the Taurus, but my mom pointed out she’s like Venus, which is the ruling planet of Taurus and also coincidentally but not really the Greek Goddess of Love. My mom loved it and so did I. I made the booboo of not signing it though!

“Happy Strawberries” 2015

This was my final piece for my Painting Explorations class this semester. This assignment was supposed to be a self portrait of some kind, but my professor Scott encouraged me to explore my apparent strong connection to food. I made a plaster mold from a real halved strawberry and made 16 polymer clay strawberries from that. I gesso’d each and then painted each with acrylic paint. I embellished each with tiny glass beads to give a texture very similar to what the seeds would feel like. And then I added glitter because hello, it’s me. And everything is better with glitter.

Here’s a painting I did as a Christmas present where I imposed the guy I was giving it to onto the the head of van Gogh’s self portrait.
